Tourism in El Hierro with ABCanarias Tourism Guide. The best places to visit. Let's go for a walk through the most interesting tourist spots in El Hierro.
Let's take a look...
Despite the fact El Hierro is the smallest island of the Canaries, it has
a great variety of natural formations; cliffs, volcanoes, creeks, woods, beaches,
etc. It is ideal for those who seek tranquility in a natural setting, far
away from traditional mass tourism. Average temperatures vary from 19º
in winter to 23º in summer.
What's the best of the island?
There are lots of great places to visit. For trekking, walk around the luxuriant
forests and natural landscapes. You can enjoy wonderful sights just about
everywhere. From the 'Mirador de la Peņa' lookout, you can see 'El Golfo',
a 15 km. entrance to the sea, with its impressive and steep slopes.
This page shows just a little of what you can find on this quiet island.
What about the swimming and beaches?
There are large natural swimming pools in Pozo de las Calcosas or Tarmaduste,
just 10 km. from Valverde, the island capital. Valverde was formed from an
eruption from the El Tesoro volcano, when lava flowed into the sea. For beaches,
go to Timijiraque or La Hoya del Verdoral, the longest on the island, with
its red sand and calm blue waters. Or if you really want to experience solitude,
try the south-east side where you can enjoy the empty beaches of Almorranas,
Arena, Los Cardones, Playa Dulce, etc...
The Roque de Bonanza is around here, isn't it?
Yes, it is one of the most symbolic places on the island with its 200 meter
high peak. This expansive area has been declared a Natural Monument.
Is it possible to dive here?
For sure! The south coast sea bed is an excellent diving area and is even
called 'Mar de las Calmas', which means Calm Sea. It's also ideal for other
kinds of water sports. Don't forget to visit 'Cueva de Don Justo' (Don Justo's
Cave), a volcanic tunnel 6 km. long, and Lajial Natural Park.
