Tourism in La Gomera with ABCanarias Tourism Guide. The best places to visit. Let's go for a walk through the most interesting tourist spots in La Gomera.
You know what?
...in La Gomera there is an incredible luxuriant foliage and green landscape!
La Gomera is located near the Ecuador, it is supposed to be much warm, but Alisios winds and cool canary current make the island climate mild and moderate along the whole year, with an average of about 22 centigrade degrees.
Just like the other islands, La Gomera has a volcanic origin. But unlike Tenerife, La Palma and Lanzarote, that suffered a large number of eruptions only a short time ago, the last one here took place 2 million years ago.
Where are the best places to visit?
La Gomera is an ideal place to visit walking around, enjoy the scenery, steep shores, cliffs, beaches, natural swimming pools, etc.
La Gomera is an unexplored island with wide and wild natural sceneries, such as Garajonay National Park.
I've heard this is the highest mountain in the island, isn't it?
That's right, its name is taken from an old legend about two lovers called Gara and Jonay, who committed suicide on this luxuriant foliage peak, because her family were opposed to their marriage.
This Park is formed by a dense forest due to condensation caused by the Alisios winds. This condensation makes possible the growth of this great vegetal forest. The Park also has other geological fossils, rocky peaks and vocalnic chimneys, like Roque de Agando.
Garajanoy Park's takes up one tenth of the island, it can be walked around through a web of paths. These paths contain a great diversity of mediterranean to subtropical ecosystems. Along the way you will enjoy exotic sights of luxurious foliage, falls, and the varied flora and fauna in the Park. If you climb up to the top of Garajonay (1487 meters), you will be able to admire an unforgetable sight of the island, La Palma, El Hierro, and even Tenerife.
The UNESCO declared Garajonay Park as a Humanity Wealth in 1986.
...and besides trekking, may I have a swim on the beach?
Of course! Between the steep slopes that take up most of the shore, you can find many black-sand beaches, like San Sebastián, La Cueva, Avalos (near San Sebastián), Playa del Inglés (preferred by hippies some time ago), Argaga, Alojera and more. Besides the beaches, you can enjoy several natural swimming pools.
