Tourism in Lanzarote with ABCanarias Tourism Guide. The best places to visit. Let's go for a walk through the most interesting tourist spots in Lanzarote.
You know what?
When I went to Lanzarote I was really surprised with such an unusual landscape!
Why?
You will say so if you see its 900 square km. surface covered with solidified lava and volcanic rocks. It looks like the moon!
volcanic rocks?
the island hosts about three hundred volcanoes, scenery like this creates an attractive contrast with the whiteness of the houses and the transparent water of the sea. An exceptional sight! The UNESCO has declared Lanzarote as World Biosphere Reservation for its protection and conservation.
What is the best of the island? Where are the best places to go!
Take a look at this site and set up your camera! What you will find in Lanzarote you won't find it elsewhere in the planet.
Tell me about the 'Montañas del Fuego'! ('Fire Mountains')
Do you want to feel like an astronaut for one day? Walking along Timanfaya National Park can only be compared to walking on the moon. There you can admire lava landscapes with red tonalities, formed from volcanic eruptions that took place from 1730 to 1736.
Is it possible to get to the top of the volcano?
Of course! Don't miss it for anything in the world! It's alive! Even near the surface the temperature rises to 360 centigrade degrees.
What is there besides lava and volcanoes?
There are many spots in Lanzarote you should not miss.
One of the most famous places is 'Jameos del agua'. The 'jameos' are natural entrances to subterranean volcanic pipes, generated by molten lava descending towards the sea. Jameos del Agua is one of those tubes produced by the Volcano 'La Corona'. In the inner space there are some lakes formed by the water filtered from the outside, creating a very special place.
Is it true there lives a strange crab specie?
There is a blind crabs specie residing here that is unique in the whole world. These crabs love music!, inside of the Jameos one of the best acoustic music halls of the world has been built.
Is the 'Cueva de los Verdes' a jameo too?
Yes. It is a section of the same volcanic pipe as that of the Jameos del Agua. It is composed of many galleries with fascinating light and colour effects created by nature. It's to be seen!
All of these things you're talking about look really interesting...
As I know you are impatient to come, I'll give you a brief description about a couple more places. In the northern shore of Lanzarote there are five islets, that can be seen from the 'Mirador del Río', an impressive viewpoint built over a startling steep. An incredible sight!
The Golfo is a broken crater beside the sea. The water filtrations have formed an spectacular natural lake become green due to its seaweed content.
You also have the chance to visit the International Contemporary Art Museum, where you will find different trends in art of the XX century. It is established in San José Castle, a nice place to have a drink and enjoy the sea while listening to relaxing music.
The Monument to the Country man can be admired from the same road, it is a piece of art dedicated to exalt the work of the island country man, created by César Manrique, an international recognised artist.
Wow! I already love all of these places, but now, it's time to relax for a while in a quiet beach, have a swim, and a sun bath.
Of course, you have many options to choose from!. The best areas, although they have a lot of tourists are quite peaceful and situated in the eastern part of the island; Puerto del Carmen, Matagorda, Los Pocillos, Costa Teguise, Playa Quemada...
Something wilder?
You can find what you're looking for in the south. Go to Playa Blanca or Playa del Papagayo, you will love these beaches. You can also enjoy Playa del Janubio, to the north, in the Playa de las Malvas or perhaps Famara.
Lanzarote is an island that you will never forget, it is really exceptional!
