Tourism in Tenerife with ABCanarias Tourism Guide. The best places to visit. Let's go for a walk through the most interesting tourist spots in Tenerife.
Do you know ...
...which is the Canary island where you will find the most spectacular contrasts?
Yes! We are in Tenerife's web site, but... why?
The spectacular differences you will witness are due to the climatic contrasts in between the northern half; humid and luxuriant, and the southern, dry and sunny. Tenerife's landscape is abrupt and steep, in the same day you may have a swim at the beach then go up Mt. Teide, at 3718 mts., for a snow ball war... unique, right?
Mt. Teide is Spain's highest peak and the most representative spot of the charms Tenerife has to offer, there are many more charms. You can visit craters, lava formations, cliffs, black and white-sand beaches, creeks and natural swimming pools. It is the biggest of the seven isles.
...volcanoes everywhere!
The Chinyero volcano had its last eruption only 90 years ago! But don't worry, Tenerife is an ideal place to enjoy a complete and special holiday anytime of the year.
Which are the most interesting places of the island?
Gosh! Three days (or 200 web pages) would be needed to tell you the places not to be missed!
Well... I cannot be hanged up so long...
I'll try to summarise for you, but think it's just a little bit of what you can discover and admire in Tenerife. Got it?
Got it!
Is Mt. Teide as spectacular as it looks in pictures?
Yes! It's incredible how this mountain stretches from the sea over the clouds. You have the chance to go up to the top, the first section by cable car, and walking the last few meters.
The sight from the peak is very nice. It is one of the few points on earth where the sea can be seen from the top of a big mountain. Mt. Teide is the heart of 'Las Cañadas' Natural Park, a huge protected area of 17 km. diameter, formed by big lava constructions, steep cliffs, vertical walls and volcanic rocks.
I've heard about a big natural lake constructed beside the sea.
The Puerto de la Cruz, where the lake is set, is the most important tourist spot of the island, most of the accommodations are established there. It lacks a beach, so the salad-water lake was built, do you fancy going for a swim?
There are lots of beaches to go in Tenerife. Those most crowded are along the south coast; 'Los Cristianos', 'Las Américas', with grey sand and surrounded by hotels and apartments. Going up along the east coast you will find 'El Médano' a long bay beach, preferred by windsurfers because of its strong winds, and more to the north, the 'Teresitas' beach, with white sand imported from The Sahara.
The Orotava Valley serves as an example of the north's fertility, extending to the limits of 'Las Cañadas' Park, on the west shore of the island. It's absolutely taken up by banana plantations and orchards.
I've heard about a unique tree specie native to Tenerife.
These trees are called 'Dragos', and are able to grow due to the peculiar climate of the island. They raise up to 20 meters in height and several meters wide in the base. There you will find the oldest Drago in the whole world.
How old?
No less than 600 to 800 years old. It's in 'Icod de los Vinos'. Also here you can visit 'La Cueva del Viento' (the 'Wind Cave'), the largest volcanic cavity in the world.
Well... that's all right! I loved the virtual trip.
You have not seen all! if you really want to know Tenerife, you must visit, you will discover a myriad of worthy places...
